Hey Crew!
Alistair from The Run Maker here, great to see February fly by with some solid summer running despite the heat. After my rollercoaster recovery (cheek, nose, collarbone), the progress has been real and the small wins are stacking up every single day.
🏃 Big News… I'm Officially Cleared to Run Again! Doctors have given me the green light to get back out there a couple of times a week! Starting short, staying on grass, and keeping the rehab going, but the road back is real and I couldn't be more stoked. Small steps, big goals. Let's go! 💪

LONG POINT PARK RUN
This is one of my favourite courses, I have raced here many times and have had a 10km along these paths!
Check the FB group here if you want to participate or volunteer!
Parkruns every Saturday, plus more MAWA and trail events, plenty to choose from. Early mornings or late afternoons still the move to beat any lingering heat.
👟 3 Tips for Picking the Right Running Shoe
With so many options out there, finding the right shoe can make or break your training. Here's what to think about:
1. Know Your Terrain First Road shoes and trail shoes are built very differently. Hitting bitumen? Look for cushioning and flexibility. Heading into the bush or technical trails? You need grip, rock protection, and a more stable platform. Don't run Chitty Chitty in your road flats, trust me on this one!
2. Get Properly Measured… Sizing Varies by Brand Running shoe sizing varies a lot between brands, and your foot swells during a ru, so you'll typically want a half to full size up from your casual shoe. Try shoes on in the afternoon when your feet are at their largest, and make sure you've got a thumb's width between your longest toe and the end of the shoe.
3. Go See the Experts in Person! Like the Crew at SBR 🏆 Skip the algorithm, visit a specialist running store. The crew at SBR are runners themselves. They'll watch you move, ask the right questions, and match you to a shoe that actually suits your foot. That knowledge is genuinely priceless and saves you from blisters, black toenails, and avoidable injuries down the track.
🤝 Local Clubs
Rockingham crew: SBR Collective Intervals every Thursday at 5:30pm from Memorial Park, and UpHill Running heads out Sunday mornings from Safety Bay. Check their socials and jump in!
Parkrun every Saturday across Perth, free, friendly, and a great way to benchmark your fitness as the summer winds down.
